Puff Pastry Christmas Trees
Oh my word – the most simplest Puff Pastry Christmas trees, layered with Nutella (or any chocolate spread) baked on Christmas morning warm from the oven! They make the BEST Christmas breakfast ever.
Soft flakey pastry sandwiched with yummy chocolate spread and dusted in icing sugar – heaven!! They almost taste like chocolate croissants – totally delicious
Imagine eating them whilst opening the presents with a hot chocolate and the twinkly lights from the Christmas tree in the background. Christmas mornings to dream of…..
Well honestly it couldn’t be easier as you can prep them, then freeze them raw and simply bake on Christmas morning – fantastic!! Or throw them together on the spot, whilst listening to Christmas carols 🙂 as they are so quick and easy
Wait for the squeals of joy ….
Ingredients for your Chocolate Christmas Trees
They are so simple to make, you literally need 4 ingredients
-
Puff Pastry
Use shop bought puff pastry (not shortcrust). It is available chilled. The sheets are perfect and you will have perfect, flakey, buttery Christmas trees
-
Nutella
Any chocolate spread will do. You could use biscoff spread or anything you fancy
-
Milk to glaze
Just standard milk – any type to glaze
-
Icing Sugar
Dusting with icing sugar gives them a very Christmassy feel
How to Make your Puff Pastry Christmas Trees
It really is so very easy
Step 1
Remove your pastry from the fridge and leave for 10 minutes, then unroll
Cut the sheet into 2, down the middle and spread with your chocolate spread.
Using a knife and make sure you spread to the edges. Then pop the other square of puff pastry on top
Step 2
Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife cut into 5-6 strips (you will need one strip or some spare to make the star for the top)
Step 3
Take each strip and bend into 4 high as per below – it needs to be wider at the bottom getting smaller towards the top
Use a skewer to hold in place (I use the BBQ ones – they are longer than cocktail sticks)
As the picture shows.
Then using a star cutter or a sharp knife make a star and pop in the top
Step 4
Space on your baking tray, making sure there is enough space, as the trees will spread as they bake
Glaze with milk using a pastry brush
Bake in your pre-heated oven for approx 30 minutes, checking after 25 minutes as all ovens vary
They should be crispy and golden 🙂 Keep your eye on them
(your kitchen will smell amazing)

How to Serve your Puff Pastry Christmas Trees
Simply warm straight from the oven is perfect, dusted in icing sugar.
They are almost like chocolate croissants – so good & very easy – delicious!
They would be lovely as a real treat served with hot chocolate, coffee or tea or simply a glass of milk!

How to store your puff pastry Christmas Trees
My advice honestly is to eat them straight from the oven, warm. Always the best!
But they will be ok for a day or so in an airtight container.
I suggest you warm them through before eating them
Enjoy

Hi, if I freeze these before cooking do I have to defrost them? Or can they be baked from frozen and if so, how long should they be baked for?

Either x
Ethel Meaker
Thanks for the reply. How much longer would they need in the oven from frozen?
